Jesse Waggoner grew up in Elizabeth, WV and is a graduate of Appalachian Bible College, Bethany Theological Seminary and completed his Doctor of Biblical Studies Degree from Master’s International School of Divinity in 2011 and a Doctor of Ministry degree in 2017. He was ordained as a minister of the Gospel in 1988.
Previously Pastor Waggoner served as Pastor of New Hope Bible Church in Bridgeport, West Virginia for eight years, and as Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Portsmouth, Ohio for five years. For twelve years he served as the Senior Associate/Teaching Pastor of Bible Center Church, Charleston, West Virginia.
After a brief break to complete his doctoral degree Pastor Waggoner began serving as the Interim Senior Pastor of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Charleston. He became Senior Pastor of Mount Calvary in September of 2011. Since that time the church has more than tripled in worship attendance and has launched a number of new ministries.
In addition to his pastoral duties, Pastor Waggoner is a writer having completed thee books The latest is Strange and Bizarre Stories from the Bible in 2016, Responsible to Hear, in 2011 and The Essential Connection, in 1996. He also authored many published articles. He also shares biblical truth through his podcast and online teaching which can be found at LivingTheWordToday.com
Pastor Waggoner and his wife, Julie, are the parents of three children. Jessica is a graduate of Cedarville University and is an ICU nurse working for the University of Virginia Medical Center and resides with her husband Eric, daughters Kaelyn, Ivy, Elyse and Gemma in Charlottesville, Virginia. Brandon is a graduate of Liberty University and earned a PhD in Counselor Education and teaches in the Liberty School of Behavioral Sciences. He is also a licensed pilot and aircraft mechanic. He and his wife Heather live in Hurricane, WV along with sons Josiah and Benaiah and daughters, Aslyn and Shiloh. Brian is also a graduate of Liberty University; he and his wife Katie have two sons, Hunter and Jacob. They live near Richmond, VA where he is pursuing a career in law enforcement with Chesterfield County police force.
